    The Power of Somatic Skills in Coaching

    Wednesday, April 24th, 2024 12:00PM - 1:30PM PT

    (Will continue every 4th Wednesday of the month)

    null

    This session is both educational and experiential. The session includes a demo of somatic techniques and the rationale for why, and when to use them. Topics such as how this work aligns with ICF principles, simple practices attendees can use right away, and an overview of the neurological basis for the work are all covered.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    ABOUT OUR SPEAKER(S)
    Brett Hill
    After graduating with a degree in interpersonal communication, he became a technology expert and has had a distinguished technical career. He presented at technical conferences worldwide for companies like Microsoft, authored books, and was awarded Microsoft’s distinguished “Most Valuable Professional” award for 9 years.
    Brett’s true passion through this time was not only “inner work.” but also teach teaching mindfulness and meditation in many forms. He studied Hakomi, a mindfulness-based somatic psychology, with founder Ron Kurtz and trained in group leadership under the guidance of Amina Knowlan, creator of Matrix Leadership.
    In addition, he taught beginning and advanced meditation for several years at the Lotus Center in Okla. City and established the Quest Institute meditation center in Dallas. He has a few meditations online and creates custom recordings for clients specifically for their needs.
    He credits much of his professional success in the corporate world to skills and tools learned from the accomplished teachers he sought out. “Mindfulness has helped in every aspect of my professional and personal life. I believe passionately that it’s the most important skill a person can develop as it can transform not only your life but the world.”
    After obtaining several coach certifications, he developed and teaches The Mindful Coach Method to help “bridge the gap” so coaches can experience and use coaching presence, coach-centered mindfulness, and the somatic techniques he has found so essential in his work, yet are often missing in coach training.
    Brett is on a mission in his work as a coach, teacher, speaker, and author to help people be more present and connected to their authentic voice, and the world itself. He specializes in mindful communications and coach training so we can connect authentically, speak truly, and listen deeply. What does the world need more than this?
    Certifications include International Coaching Federation, Somatic-Wellness & Mindfulness Coach, and Mindful Facilitator by the Institute for Organizational Mindfulness. He’s also an alumni of the Inner MBA by Sounds True, and has hundreds of hours of training in Hakomi, Matrix Group Leadership, Martial Art, Contact Improvisation and others.
    How to Work with (Almost) Anyone
    Guest Speaker: Michael Bungay Stanier
    *This is a multi-chapter event facilitated by ICFNE Chapter.
    Thursday May 9th, 2024, 10:00 PM - 11:30 AM PT
    null
    Your happiness and success depend on your working relationships. The people you manage. How well you work with your boss. The way collaboration happens with colleagues and peers. How you connect with important prospects and key clients.
    But the hard truth is this: most of us leave the health and fate of these relationships to chance. We say “Hi,” exchange pleasantries, hope for the best, and immediately get into the work.
    Soon (sometimes it takes weeks, sometimes minutes), the first cracks appear. A misunderstanding. An expectation not met. A low-grade irritation. A random act of weirdness. Different ways of seeing the world or getting things done. A flare-up under stress.
    Every relationship becomes suboptimal at some point, whether it’s a good one that goes off the rails or one that was poor from the start.
    When suboptimal happens, most of us don’t know what to do about it. We blame them, or ourselves, or the universe (or maybe all three). We get all the feelings: sad, let down, irritated, frustrated.
    But mostly we are resigned to the fact that this is what happens: relationships always get a little broken, or a little stale, or a little worse. C’est la vie, c’est la guerre. Carry on.
    You will leave with a renewed optimism about the quality of their working relationships, a determination to actively manage them, and a plan to get things started.
    Learning Objectives
    In this practical session, you'll learn how to reverse that trend and build the best possible working relationship with anyone. Well, almost anyone. You will:
    • learn the three attributes of a resilient and long-lasting relationship
    • understand how you can aspire to “the best possible relationship” with every one of your key working relationships
    • investigate the one awkward but essential conversation that will set up success
    • take a deep dive into one of the Keystone Conversation questions, and prepare your best
    In this initiative, any coach member of ICF WA chapter, can bring forth a topic for an event or a session, which they have some level of expertise in. On the fourth Wednesday of every month, one of the coaches, who has made a submission, will be invited to co-host the session on the topic that they submitted, with ICF-WA. If you are interested in Co-Hosting a session with ICF-WA on a specific topic, please fill the form here.
    Session FAQs
    Who can volunteer as a presenter and co-host for a session of For Coaches By Coaches?
    • Anyone interested in presenting should complete the Interest Intake sheet. Submissions will be considered based on availability, alignment to our chapter's mission, and in context of other educational events and programs the chapter is offering. Submissions to the interest form are not guaranteed selection for leading a By Coaches For Coaches event. We reserve the right to decline topics.
    How will I know I have been selected?
    • Co-director of Programming will be reaching out to all the coaches with submissions by end of the month in which we have received the submissions, conveying if they have been selected, and sharing 3 options of sessions. The coach member will have to then confirm their availability for one of the sessions, which will then get confirmed in the calendar along with their topic.
    When will it be held?
    • Coaches Create will be held at 12pm-1:30pm on the fourth Wednesday of every month, starting from February.
    Duration and Structure of each session
    • Each session will be 60 minutes long, with the co-hosting coach initiating the session with ~20 - 30 minutes of presentation on the topic, followed by 30 minutes of discussion including Q&A
    Will CCEUs be offered for these sessions?
    • CCEUs will not be offered for these sessions in general, unless the presenter applies to ICF for competency credits themselves. They can reach out to the Co-Directors of Programming to understand the process.
    What are the restrictions on advertising my business through this?
    • The coaches will be given 5 minutes at the end to share about their offerings, provided all the Q&A has been done.
    How will you measure the engagement and performance of the session? We use the following metrics and ways to get feedback and measure the performance of the session:
    • In session survey to gauge how the participants resonated with the session as well as if they found it useful and aligned to the expectations
    • Attendance to registration ratio
    • NPS (Net promoter score)
    • Informal feedback discussion in Coaches Café and Networking Café if any common attendees
    I would like to volunteer my time to support these sessions. What are the opportunities and how do I volunteer?
    Have you been curious about supervision and wanting to experience it?
    Come join a monthly open group supervision starting in Jan 2024 on the 4th *Tuesday of each month, 8AM-9:30AM PST. You will have the opportunity to be supervised by Erica Goos, PCC, Coach Supervisor & Madalina Radulescu, PCC, ESIA and Rekha Hatkanagalekar, MCC.
    What is supervision?
    Supervision is a non-judgmental partnership in which the coach brings his/her work to a supervisor to explore challenges, ethical dilemmas, emotional responses, and how the personal may intrude into the professional.  The supervisor does not evaluate or judge but holds a reflective space for learning and connection for the group.
    ICF research has identified key benefits for coaches who receive Coaching Supervision, which include:
    • Increased self-awareness
    • Greater confidence
    • Increased objectivity
    • Heightened sense of belonging
    • Reduced feelings of isolation
    • Increased resourcefulness
    Several Groups, One Date and Time
    Whether you are a newer coach or an experienced one, you will find a resonant space for you and your peers to gather and reflect.  Our facilitators and all attendees will all meet together on Zoom to center ourselves, and then we will separate into individual groups.
