Brain Recruitment

Presentation:

Nirupa's style is casual and interactive. Her presentation is arranged as a very visual and visceral journey of a coaching concept, Brain Recruitment, that she developed over the years. The presentation covers the background and the concepts developed. She has transformed the basics of brain recruitment into everyday imagery and examples that we can all relate to. Although this involves neuroscience concepts it will be related with humor and hopefully indulge most curious appetites without producing delta sleep waves!

The presentation will cover the coaching process briefly but spend more time on why it is useful, how it differs from other courses based in neuroscience, who will benefit and expected outcomes.

Biography:

Nirupa Shah is a Neurologist with an MBA from the University of Cardiff, and MPH from Johns Hopkins University. She completed her medical training in Durban, South Africa. She was recognized as a national expert for her contribution in functional neurosurgery. Her expertize was honed from working in the field of cognitive and behavioral neurology for more than 20 years. This earned her invitations to make scientific presentations, TV and radio appearances. Her work entailed the construction of brain maps using stimulation studies and merging this with neurophysiological, neuroradiology and neuropsychology data. Using these methods, she assisted people who were unable to participate socially, academically or in the work place to integrate back into mainstream life. Insights from this experience and her knowledge of neuroscience are the basis of her program for brain recruitment. She made a major decision to move across international borders. The sometimes comedic but mostly disruptive experience led her to use brain recruitment to assist people that relocate. From those she interviewed a common story emerged. She found that whether people relocated within or across national boundaries, the impact was felt not just by individuals but entire families. Her work echoes a worldly experience that everyone can relate to as she blends medical expertise, neuroscience insights and business know how. Her goal is to produce cognitively agile individuals who are able to adapt rapidly using innate skills rather than depending on environment specific solutions.
