North Seattle Satellite

Join us this month at North Seattle Satellite for an opportunity to take a look at ourselves and play with the practice of self-generative presence as described in Doug Silsbee’s book Presence Based Coaching.

Presentation:

In his book Presence Based Coaching, Doug Silsbee says, “Coaching begins with our inside work; it is through this development of the capacity for presence in ourselves that we evoke the experience of presence in others.”

It is essential that each of us as coach continue to look within and be able to identify our internal and external barriers to being present with our clients. Without this work, we can fall victim to our own unconscious biases and behaviors while working with clients.

Understanding and building on the principles of self-generative coaching allows us the opportunity to take a look at the habits, attachments, aversions and stories we bring to our coaching and practice ways to make sure we are not falling into our own default mode.

We will:

  • Name our attachments and aversions
  • Identify our habits and their stories, and what role they play in our coaching
  • Practice the four components of becoming self- generative (“The capacity to be present and a learner in all of life in order to make choices for the inner state of greatest possible awareness and resourcefulness” Silsbee)
  • Understand how presence invites us into consciousness of choice and awareness of new possibilities for ourselves and our clients.
