ICF Kitsap Satellite Meetup ~

3 Principles for Coaching Mastery

There will be 1.5 CCEU Core Compentency units offered.

In 2010, I encountered an understanding that changed my coaching forever. That understanding is known as the Three Principles, and it was first articulated by Sydney Banks in the 1970s.

In this presentation, I will share the Principles as a new paradigm for coaching that makes sense of what’s happening when coaching “works” and offers the promise of more profoundly transformational work.

Together we will look at key elements of this paradigm:

  • How human experience is created from the inside out, but only 100% of the time.
  • The way in which every human being is, in fact (and not just as a useful frame of reference), creative, resourceful, and whole.
  • The role of insight in learning and navigating life’s challenges.

We will also explore the implications of these points for how we work with clients, including creating coaching agreements, educating clients about the Principles, and understanding and interpreting the ICF Core Coaching Competencies.

Learning objectives include:

  • Understand why the Principles are not another model, but rather a new paradigm for coaching.
  • Gain an even deeper appreciation for coaching and its potential to generate insight.
  • Clarity about why and how presence is “the master competency.”

Encountering the Three Principles has been the most thrilling development in my 20+ year coaching career, and I can’t wait to share it with you. If you would like a foretaste of the evening, here are some excellent resources:

Molly Gordon is a Master Certified Coach known for her creativity, humor, and commitment to helping clients get off the merry-go-round of serial self-improvement and into the slipstream of infinite possibility. Her clients have included financial planners, fine artists, executive coaches, managers, and entrepreneurs, as well as organizations such as NASA, Kindermusik, and various non-profit and governmental entities.

Molly trained with Academy for Coach Training (now inviteCHANGE) and The Newfield Network. She was a founding member of the Puget Sound Coaches Association and, as President of the Board, spearheaded the initiative to make PSCA a chartered chapter of ICF. She has been the chair of the ICF’s Chapter Leadership Committee and an assessor for the ICF credentialing process. In 2003, She is currently on the faculty of the Professional Coaching Certificate Program at the University of Miami, Coral Gables.

Several threads run through Molly’s life: a hunger for insight, an irrepressible urge to share what she discovers, and an abiding commitment to helping others experience and express their innate genius. Her work is firmly grounded in the realization that every human being is inherently whole, creative, and resourceful, and she is thrilled to partner with her clients to create lives and work they love.

Molly and her husband, Miles, live in Suquamish, Washington, with three cats‚ Scoutmaster Sophie, Princess Catalina, and Isabella Squeak and two hens, Clover and Viola Swamp. When she’s not coaching or having adventures with her grandchildren, she gardens, knits, and binges shamelessly on Netflix.
