Description of Webinar

Breaching confidentiality is sometimes necessary when a client threatens harm – either to themselves or someone else.

This webinar will center on the actions a coach can take when the red flags go up. The presenters will share from their experience and knowledge about a client’s potential suicide. This is presentation is a must-see and it’s fun – promise. 

This presentation totally relates to the 1st ICF core competency; Meeting Ethical Guidelines and Professional Standards—Understanding of coaching ethics and standards and ability to apply them appropriately in all coaching situations. 

Furthermore, Item 24 of Section 4 of the 2015 Code of Ethics refers to the coach’s need to report harm “if required by law.” In many legal venues, potential suicide is indeed a reporting requirement. This presentation will give participants the wherewithal to make such a call.

What you will learn:

  • Becoming sensitive to some of the signs of someone who may be considering self-harm.
  • Learning how to engage in a productive discussion about the topic of suicide rather than avoiding the topic.
  • Knowing what community resources are available for suicidal individuals such as local mental health professionals, emergency clinics and suicide hot lines.

About Connie

Connie is a trained Transformational Life Coach, who entered the field after a 30-year career providing clinical therapy, executive management, training and consultation in mental health. She is an expert trainer and consultant for coaches, clinicians, management personnel, first responders and criminal justice professionals.   Her extensive work in suicide prevention includes being a Founding Member and Past Chair of the Commonwealth of Kentucky Suicide Prevention Group, Past Clinical Director of the Kentucky Community Crisis Response Board, and the developer and Corporate Director of the KY Jail Mental Health Crisis Network. About Michael

Michael is an ICF Professional Certified Coach specializing in business coaching and corporate consultation. Michael is an onsite Suicide Prevention Advocate for REPS (Reaching Everyone Preventing Suicide) in Steamboat Springs, CO. He also teaches the Ethics course as well as the Coaching Skills Mastery course for the Professional Christian Coaching Institute. Dr. Marx currently serves as the leader of the ICF ‘Global Community of Practice on Ethics.’ He also serves on the ICF Independent Review Board.
