Description of Course

What if you could easily recognize a client’s behavior style so you could more effectively connect and communicate with her? Our clients all have preferred behavior styles, as do we. Our preferences are not our personality, which means we can learn to change them. When we know our client’s preferred style, we can answer their questions, address their concerns, and challenge them at the right level, in words that will connect best with them. The result? More effective coaching.

In this session you will learn about Life Orientations (LIFO), a short 18-question survey that assesses our style preferences under both favorable and unfavorable conditions.

What you will learn:

Learn the academic origins of LIFO, the characteristics of the four orientations, different applications for LIFO, and how to recognize the style preferences of another person by the words they use, the questions they ask, and what they write.

At the end of this session, will you understand how to:

  • Identify your own preferred behavioral style
  • Recognize the consequences of overusing your strengths and learn three strategies for working with your preferred style
  • Guess the style of other people and flex your style to connect more effectively with them

    About Suzanne

After 23 years as an HR business leader, executive coach, and leadership development consultant, Suzanne now officially lives in a 29-foot trailer towed by a big blue truck. While traveling the country, she coaches entrepreneurial-spirited women to make big transitions and live bigger, braver, bolder lives. After studying narrative coaching with David Drake and Tara Mohr’s Playing Big work for the past four years, Suzanne helps her clients rewrite out-of-date narratives and identify what it means for them to play big. In her case that means traveling the country, writing, teaching online courses, and launching a publishing company.

Suzanne graduated from the Columbia Business School’s executive and organizational coaching program. She is certified in the Life Orientations behavioral styles survey and MBTI. She has a BA in American Studies from UC Santa Cruz. You can reach her at suzanne@ontheroadcoaching.com.
