Description of Course

The Servant Leader Coach

Robert Greenleaf (who coined the term), says servant leadership “begins with the natural feeling that one wants to serve, to serve first.” Isn’t this why we coach in the first place? To partner with clients in a “thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential” (ICF)?

In this practical and inspiring hands-on session, you will not only learn how to use Servant Leadership to examine your own work as a coach, but how to also inspire your clients to consider their own impact on others.

You’ll also learn how to coach clients who struggle with the gap between the difference they’ve made and what they could make going forward.

Along with your presenter, Mark Light, we will have a special guest to help illustrate these questions. He is underpaid and overworked, his organization lives from payroll to payroll, and his hard-working, loyal, and willing staff is overtaxed and underpowered. He is the stereotypical leader dedicated to the mission but frustrated about unrealized personal dreams.

He is George Bailey, the central character in Frank Capra’s classic ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’, and he will be our client in today’s satellite event. A true servant leader in action!

What you will learn:

At the end of this interactive and educational session, you will leave with the following practical tools and knowledge to inspire your coaching practice:

  1. The basics of Servant Leadership in context of other well-known leadership theories.
  2. How Servant Leadership can help you coach clients who worry about the difference they’ve made and could make in their lives.
  3. How Servant Leadership can help you evaluate your own work.
  4. Practice coaching using the three Servant Leadership questions.
