Some coaching conversations have moments of transformation or shifts in perception that allow clients to recognize a new way of thinking or to see a situation that can move them forward in a positive manner. In Appreciative Coaching, these shifts are referred to as “pivotal moments.” When clients pivot, they see their situation with new eyes and experience an accompanying positive emotional response of relief, hope and often excitement. The presenter embarked on a research project to understand the characteristics of “pivotal” moments in coaching conversations and developed a process and model for identifying and encouraging pivotal moments in coaching.

Learn how to better understand the coach’s role, strategy and action in inspiring, supporting and “priming” clients to experience pivotal moments.

In this session you will:
  • Learn a model for depicting and making use of the power and capacities of pivotal moments in your own coaching engagements
  • Learn about the common “triggers” in coaching conversations that can contribute to shifts in perception
  • Understand the theory underlying the phenomenon of a pivotal moment
  • Take home a list of “priming” strategies that coaches can effectively use to inspire and support pivotal moments in their clients’ coaching conversations

ICF CCEs available for attending this event. Be sure to register online and check in at the event in order to receive them.
