What Team Coaching Is and Is Not

Team Coaching is one of the fastest growing disciplines in the coaching profession. Many interventions are available for improving teamwork, group dynamics, creating team charter, vision, and work plans. Like many processes and tools available for human development, organizations struggle to discover consistently effective methods for experiencing success. Why? A tension between individual and collective contribution generates a lot of undesirable behavior by leaders and team members that negatively impacts organizational outcomes.

This session offers knowledge and introduces necessary skill building to fulfill the ICF Team coaching sub-competency skills for TCC#1 and #2. This session is for practicing coaches and is an orientation to the inviteCHANGE Generative Team Coaching framework, particularly from the perspective of coaching in any “one-to-many” context as a leader and/or a coach and how to sustain being “fit for purpose” in the complexity of stakeholders and systems that are inherent to this type of coaching.

Learner Outcomes

  • Gain appreciation for the spectrum of directiveness that the range of team modalities offered to determine how to contract appropriately for what is and is not team coaching.

  • Increase awareness of the 6 major domains that require attention and application of specific skills for working in an “one-to-many” context.

  • Build understanding for the ICF Team Coaching sub-competencies #1 and #2 (Ethical Practice and Coaching Mindset) and how these build upon the well-established ICF Core Competencies for one-on-one work.
